Integrated Manual Therapy is not just for professional athletes… it is also for the increasing number of people who suffer from muscular and skeletal problems, perhaps as the result of poor posture or from a sports-related or work-related injury.

About Integrated Manual Therapy

Professional sports people and dancers have long understood the benefits of manual therapy in keeping them strong, pain-free and able to perform.

The therapy uses a number of techniques to help remedy pain, maintain muscle performance, treat existing injuries and prevent future injuries.

After an in-depth consultation and body assessment, you can expect to receive a treatment that is tailored specifically to your requirements.  Your body will be assessed as a whole, looking at its alignment and your range of movement to work out the best course or action to treat your joints, muscles, connective tissues and fascia.

Treatments may include:

  • Assessment, treatment and management of soft tissue injury, pain and dysfunction – primarily of the neuromusculoskeletal system
  • Bodywork techniques to improve posture.
  • Manual therapy using soft tissue techniques to help mobilise your joints.
  • Assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of minor and chronic musculoskeletal conditions using home exercises and Pilates equipment
  • Taping to relieve muscle pain, promote the healing process and prevent injury.

Who Will Benefit?

Integrated Manual Therapy has been successfully used to help treat or control numerous conditions including:

  • Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD), hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (heDS) which is often associated with joint and ligament injuries, pain and fatigue, poor proprioception

  • Back, neck and shoulder pain or injury
  • Recovery from sprains and strains
  • Hip, knee, lower limb and Achilles problems
  • Chronic muscular aches and pains

  • Post-surgery rehabilitation including joint replacement

What people say..

I went to see Ruth when I had pulled my hamstring and piriformis muscle to the point where it was pinching my sciatica. I was getting pins & needles shooting down my leg and occasionally the pain was so bad my leg would buckle. After my first treatment the pins & needles stopped and the pain reduced by 70%. The success of recovery was fantastic and I have since returned to Ruth for other injuries with my back and shoulders knowing that with regular sessions and doing exercises given I will be back to normal as soon as possible.

Ruth is one of the more intrinsically knowledgeable practitioners I have ever met and will use various techniques to fix the problem, prevent it coming back and sort the rest of you out at the same time! She spotted in 1 session my problem areas, which some other practitioners didn't discover in 10 sessions! I no longer have back ache (so long as I do my homework exercises too!), I do not have migraines and my knee is well on its way to being healed. Whether you train professionally, for leisure or even just have every day gripes and aches, Ruth will help you live pain and injury free! In short a miracle worker!

Ruth is quite simply a master of her art.  Her technical expertise is second to none, she has a refreshingly holistic approach to working with the human body, and is a pleasure to work with and extremely effective.   Since first meeting with my varied assortment of stresses and strains, I have been injury free by virtue of regular tune- up sessions.  I would rather wait to see Ruth than any other practitioner.

When back pain developed that impacted my active lifestyle and my everyday life, I realized the conventional therapy I was receiving wasn’t enough. Ruth, with her knowledge and experience, clearly sees more than just symptoms, using techniques in not the most obvious of places, relative to the symptoms, to treat the cause too. Ruth gets results but expects you to keep your end of the bargain when she teaches you alternative stretches/techniques to do between visits. I have developed a greater understanding of my body, its limitations and what I can do to improve the situation and manage little hiccups along the way.

My back used to go into spasm every few months leaving me in agony and unable to move. I had had a year’s worth of physio without anything other than the symptom being addressed. Ruth immediately diagnosed the problem, focusing on the cause, not just the symptoms.  In the past I have experienced an unpleasant crunching in my shoulder because of my back problems and was told by one physio this wasn’t something that could be fixed.  Ruth didn’t see it this way and for the past seven months or so there has been no crunch - it’s been fabulous! I have no hesitation at all in recommending Ruth. She understands bodies, is passionate about healing and is always focussed on learning more so she can do an even better job.

Debbie Palmer

I have been a client of Ruth’s for 15years and in that time we have worked
together to create a sustainable, functional way for me to live with my
Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD). Before Ruth, I had seen many, many
professionals ranging from chriopractors to physios to surgeons. Despite
following their advice and quite often paying a lot of money I found my pain
and mobility did not improve.

Through a combination of hands on fascial release, pilates style strengthening
exercises and stretches, as well as indepth discussion between the two of us; my
ability to move and function in my every day life has improved exponentially.
Ruth looks at me holistically, she wants to know what I have been doing and
how my daily activities might affect my body. She has seen me through three
pregnancies and all the physical aspects of looking after three small children.

Ruth understands how my challanges go deeper than movement. She knows
that I have to be able to work my exercises into my daily routine and she helps
me achieve this. There are always bumps along the road but I know that I can
go to Ruth and we will look at how to help manage and lessen my chronic pain.
I fully trust Ruth to know and understand my body and I always come away
from our sessions feeling a weight has been lifted. I trust her to the extent that I
have been bringing my daughter to her since she was 8 years old, she also has
HDS, and I know if anyone can help it is Ruth.

Having been a professional cyclist for 15 years I had got used to my body not functioning. Since starting to receive treatment from Ruth in 2009 I have had a new lease of life. My flexibility has improved dramatically and I can achieve a much more aggressive position on the bike and ride for longer, pain free. This has meant being able to train harder and at 40 years old I won the world masters championships having previously contemplated retirement due to the chronic pain in my back and neck, thank you Ruth! Ps don't expect it to be a pleasant experience

I started to see Ruth in May 2017 after suffering with hip pain brought on by scoliosis. I have Harrington rods in my spine and a number of different issues with my back, hips, neck and feet. Ruth was the first practitioner I've seen (and I've seen many!) who treated me as an individual rather than a condition. She thoroughly assessed me in our first meeting and methodically worked through all my issues prioritising as necessary along the way. She tailored a homework programme specifically for me and in only 2 months I feel completely different, much less pain, and have a greater understanding of my body.

Ruth is a bundle of energy and works so hard for her patients. She is extremely caring as well and a great listener and (despite all the hard work she puts me through) I love our sessions and they are well worth the journey round the north circ to see her. Can't recommend Ruth highly enough - she has made such a difference to my life already - still got a journey ahead of us but one that I now feel far more positive about.
